All persons interested in Asian studies are invited to attend the
seventh annual meeting of the Asian Studies Conference Japan (ASCJ),
which will be held at the Ichigaya Campus of Sophia University on June
21-22, 2003.  ASCJ is a regional conference of the Association for Asian
Studies.

The program consists of 30 sessions that address a broad range of themes
relating to Asian studies.  All sessions are conducted in English.

This year ASCJ is pleased to announce Professor Osamu Saito of
Hitotsubashi University as our keynote speaker on Saturday, June 21.
The keynote address is entitled "Contrasting Stories: Population and
Forests, China and Japan, Traditional and Modern." It will be followed
by a reception to which all participants are invited.

Those expecting to attend ASCJ are asked to register in advance by
following the instructions on the ASCJ website.  For those who register
by Tuesday, June 10, the conference fee is 3,000 yen, payable by credit
card or by domestic bank transfer.  The reception fee is 3,000 yen.  From
June 11 credit card and bank transfer payments will be closed;
registration must be done at the conference at the onsite rate of 4,000
yen.

Onsite registration and distribution of materials will begin at 9:15 a.m.
on June 21.  Light refreshments will be available.  The conference will
begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
