Invitation and Call for Papers:

The 9th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women (WW05),
will be held at Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul, Korea, from 20
June to 24 June 2005. The Congress will feature the
theme, “Embracing the Earth: East-West/North-South”. With this
theme we hope to provoke discussion on how women’s lives are
interwoven, as well as kept separate, by the increasing economic
disparity between the North and the South and the contesting
values of the East and the West.

Furthermore, as the first meeting ever to be held in Asia, WW05
will look at the contrasts between East-West perspectives, and
perhaps more importantly, will try to give participants from
around the world, a better look at the cultural backdrop, social
movements, identity and policy-making efforts that are specific to
the Asian context.

There are 20 sub-themes:
Globalization, Gender Identity, Families and Everyday Life,
Sexuality, Gender and Religion, NGO and Activism, Environment and
Agriculture, Gender Science and Technology, Gender and ICT,
Culture and Creativity, Media, Peace War and Conflict, Economy
Work and Welfare, Human Rights and Law, Politics and Good
Governance, Woman’s Studies, Health and Sports, New Paradigms for
Alternative World, East/West and North/South, Global Agenda in Asia

We welcome cross-cultural and interdisciplinary proposals from all
fields, and it is our intention to have a combination of scholarly
papers, as well as popular synopses of diverse works by activists,
advocates, and developmental practitioners in the field of women
gender. NGOs and activists, UN agencies, the media and other
foundations are invited to join in a dialogue with women’s studies
scholars in the humanities, the natural and social sciences, the
creative and performing arts, health, law, social work, education,
community development and other interdisciplinary studies.
