Dear List Members,

On behalf of Prof. Noriko Thunman (Goteborg University), the Chair of the
Organizing Committee of the 6th NAJAKS (Nordic Association for Japanese and
Korean Studies) Conference (August 20-22, 2004, Goteborg, Sweden), I would
like to send the announcement of this conference. Please, direct all the
inquiries not to me, but to Prof. Noriko Thunman (noriko.thunman at japan.gu.se).

NAJAKS 2004 is the 6th symposium of Nordic Association for Japanese and
Korean Studies. It was first held at the University of Copenhagen in 1989
and thereafter held in Tampere (1992), Aarhus (1995), Stockholm (1998) and
Oslo (2001).

The aim of this conference series is to bring together and promote
interaction between scholars and students from the entire field of Japanese
and Korean studies in Scandinavia. Its success in achieving this aim can in
some part be measured by the increase in participation not only from
Scandinavia but also from overseas. It is hoped that this trend will
continue. The theme of the NAJAKS at Göteborg is:
"Changes and Continuities: Contemporary Nordic Researches on Japan and Korea".

We welcome abstracts of original research in any area of Japanese and/or
Korean studies; e.g. literature, linguistics, language teaching, history,
religion, anthropology, sociology, economics, politics etc. Please send
your abstract (approximately 400 words) electronically to the person in
charge of the area of study.

Deadline for abstract submission: April 1, 2004

All the information on the Conference is available on its site,
http://www.najaks.com/, through which you also can submit your registration.
