Call for Papers

Korea Journal, a quarterly academic journal, is calling for papers on the topic of the “Korean Wave” (hallyu).
This is intended to provide more in-depth analysis of the Korean Wave, a popular culture phenomenon currently taking place in Asia. Accepted papers will be published in the winter 2005 or spring 2006 issue of the Korea Journal after being evaluated by the Korea Journal editorial board. Specific topics may include:

- Transnational cultural capital and the Korean Wave, or Transnationality of the Korean Wave
- Analysis of specific cultural products, including “Yon sama”
- Comparative study of the Korean Wave among East Asian countries, such as China, Japan, and Vietnam
- Overall review of the discourse surrounding the Korean Wave, including the question of whether this phenomenon can be sustained and developed
- The Korean Wave from specific perspectives, including feminist viewpoints
We also welcome any papers on topics other than those listed above, which can contribute to broader understanding of the Korean Wave.

Papers must be written in Korean or English, and should be submitted by August 31, 2005.
