As one of his doctoral students, I was blessed to interact with Fuji on 
a regular basis while at Bowling Green State University.  More than a 
supervisor, he was a caring mentor who helped me discover Korea and 
History on numerous different levels, namely through the eyes of a 
scholar, at times of a political activist, and as mentioned by others, 
of an artist.  He also had an amazing ability to coach me rigorously and 
leave intact my freedom to research.
There is no doubt he will be recalled for his invaluable scholarly 
contributions to the field of Korean Studies.  As for me, above all, I 
will remember him as a wonderful human being.
