Modern Korean Studies - Open Rank

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the
University of Chicago invites applications for an open rank position in
modern Korean Studies. Specialization should be in Humanistic Studies of
the modern era, beginning with the 19th century. We seek a scholar who
will bring breadth and depth to Korean Studies at the University of
Chicago and in North America. We welcome innovative approaches to
textual studies, especially in literature. Candidates should have native
or near-native fluency in Korean. Applicants should send CV and a
statement addressing current research and teaching interests, and should
request three letters of recommendation to be sent directly. We would
like senior applicants to send representative examples of recently
published work. Junior applicants should send a dissertation chapter and
an outline of the dissertation, as well as copies of publications. For
junior candidates, the Ph.D. completed by September of 2008 preferred.
