Assistant Professorship in East Asia/Korea
 
 
The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies wishes to appoint an assistant professor in 
East Asia/Korea from 1 September 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 
The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies is concerned with those cultures, languages, religions and societies that lie outside Western Europe and North America. Information about the department may be found at http://english.tors.ku.dk/
 
Job description
Korean studies is one of the modern East Asian area studies, and the discipline is based on the use of modern Korean language at all levels as well as beginners sino-korean. Moreover, the study of modern Korean society, culture and Korean history is also included in the syllabus.
 
The subject “Korean Studies” is in the process of being developed. The person to be employed must be active in the planning and implementation of this development. It is expected that the assistant professor cooperates with colleagues from Japanese Studies in particular as well as other colleagues at the department, who are important for the development of Korean studies. 
 
The applicant must enclose a suggested plan for the development of the subject with regards to research and educational studies within the next years.
 
Qualification requirements 
It is important that the assistant professor is qualified to teach on all levels in modern Korean language as well as beginners sino-korean. In addition, academic qualifications in the study of Korean culture, history and society will be emphasised.

An assistant professorship is a three-year, fixed-term position involving research and teaching duties. 
 
Appointment as an assistant professor presumes research qualifications on at least PhD level. The person appointed to the post will be obliged to take a course of study in university teaching devised specially for assistant professors.
 
The successful applicant is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration. 
 
 
Application
The application and enclosed documentation must include information about academic, teaching, administrative and any other relevant qualifications. As well as a CV, applications must include a complete and numbered list of publications stipulating which works the applicant wishes to be taken into consideration – marked with an asterisk (*) in the list of publications. The maximum number of publications submitted is six. These must be submitted in triplicate. The application and the enclosures must be submitted in four copies, of which one must be in loose leaf.
 
Only original materials will be returned at the end of the application procedure.
 
Appointment procedure
Once the deadline for applications has been reached, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to consider the appointment concerned. All applicants will be informed who is serving on the committee, and individual applicants will be afforded the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before an appointment is announced. Remuneration and conditions of employment as per the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the appropriate trade union. Assistant professors receive a pensionable supplement of DKK 45.793,53 p.a.
