**Call for Panel proposals: 3rd Kyujanggak International Symposium on Korean Studies**

Dear Colleagues,

The Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University is pleased to announce the third Kyujanggak International Symposium on Korean Studies, to be held August 27-28, 2010. The conference theme is “The Japanese Annexation of Korea, 100 Years After: Looking back at 1910 – 강제병합, 100년 전을 뒤돌아 본다.” 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the forceful annexation of Korea by Japan, an occasion to reflect on the causes and continuing significance of this event.

Following the precedent of the previous Kyujanggak symposia, the plenary panel of the symposium will be devoted to the main topic, but the remaining panels are open to any topic related to Korean studies. We would therefore like to invite panel proposals on topics that deal with pathbreaking new research on Korea, both contemporary and pre-modern. Panels can use either English or Korean as the main language of presentation.

Panels should consist of four to five presenters, and panel organizers are responsible for bringing together paper proposals and applying. Panel proposals – including title and short abstracts of the panel and of individual papers, and short CVs of the organizer and panelists – should be sent to icks at snu.ac.kr by February 10, 2010. Panel organizers will be notified by March 15, 2010 whether their panel has been accepted; all presenters of selected panels will be reimbursed for their travel to Seoul and will receive free lodging and meals for the duration of the conference. Final papers should be sent in by June 30, 2010. Further details will be announced by e-mail to those who have sent in a panel application.
