I thought members of this list would be interested in Women Make Movies TIGER SPIRIT, a new documentary which illuminates current news on Korea, plus a special offer to Save 25% on this educational resource.

This past weekend, Korean families long separated by the Korean War were reunited near the border between North and South Korea. These reunions, the first in nearly two years, offered a rare picture of reconciliation in a region fraught with political tension, due in large part to North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

WMM's TIGER SPIRIT, by Min Sook Lee, sheds a much-needed light on one of the most enigmatic countries in the world and the issue of Korean reunification.

In this powerful film, Lee embarks on a stirring reunification journey across the Koreas' demilitarized zone in search of the real and symbolic "Tiger Spirit" of Korea. With unprecedented access, intimate stories of divided families, and never before seen footage of North Korea's industrial zone and state-sanctioned reunification centers, Lee brings us an emotion-charged journey into Korea's broken heart. This film explores the complex politics, rhetoric and realism of reunification through the extraordinary stories of ordinary families.

"Focuses on some of the most powerful issues of twentieth century Korea.... Where Lee makes the greatest contribution is in her narration of the reunions of separated North and South Korean families, an event that still makes headlines around the world.... [R]equired viewing in my course on Modern Korea."- George L. Kallander, Assistant Professor of Modern East Asian History, University of Syracuse
