Dear Colleagues,

If you happen to be in the Washington, DC area early November, you are
cordially invited to attend the 18th Hahn Moo-Sook Colloquium in the Korean
Humanities at The George Washington University, on Saturday, November 6,
2010.

This year's theme is "Medicine, Mental Health and Childhood in Korea: Past &
Present." In this colloquium, top scholars in Korean studies will focus
on the history of medicine and mental health in Korea, especially in
relation to reproduction and childhood. Speakers will discuss how, in the
Japanese colonial period, biomedical research in Korea on reproduction and
women's health was conducted as a political tool for the empire; the role of
the media in the 20th and early 21st century in decreasing the stigma of
mental illness; and the growth of psychiatry, psychology, counseling, and
cutting edge research on human behavior.
