[KS] Vancouver call for papers

I would like to extend an invitation to every scholar on this electronic bulletin board to apply to present a paper at an international conference to be held this coming August in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. You shouldn't miss this opportunity. August is one of the few months we don't get much rain here, and it's not usually very hot here, either. I can't think of a better place to spend a few days talking with other Korean Studies scholars from around the world for a few days in August.
This conference is sponsored by the International Society for Korean Studies, based in Osaka, Japan. The ISKS has two primary reasons for existence, in addition to to the promotion of the study of Korea, of course. First of all, it was organized over two decades ago, at a time when Korean studies was polarized between supporters of the DPRK and supporters of the ROK, and the two sides hardly even got together. ISKS was established in the neutral ground of Japan to promote scholarly exchanges across ideological boundaries (That is why we call it the Koryeohakhoe, avoiding the politically-charged Han'guk and Joseon). That is related to the second purpose of ISKS, to provide venues for scholars from the ROK and the DPRK to meet and exchange scholarly information. Our current president is Chung Kwang, from the ROK. However, we also have chapters in Pyongyang as well as in China, Europe, and North America. At our international conferences (this will be our 10th), scholars from all over the world, including scholars from the ROK and the DPRK, are able to meet and find out what their colleagues in other parts of the world are doing.
At a time like the present, with relations between the ROK and the DPRK much cooler than they have been in recent years, our work is more important than ever. A successful conference in Vancouver will allow at least some South Koreans to get to know some North Koreans personally, and vice versa, and that hopefully will contribute to a return to the cooperative spirit that prevailed on the peninsula for most of the last decade. So if you come to Vancouver and present a paper at this 10th ISKS conference, you will contribute to Korean Studies as well as to world peace. Who can say no to that?
The formal call for papers is as follows:
