[KS] CFP: January 2012 MLA convention in Seattle

The Modern Language Association (MLA) division on *East Asian Languages and
Literatures after 1900* seeks paper
proposals for the following panels to be held at the January 2012 MLA
convention in Seattle:

1.  “Modern East Asian Literature/World Literature”
Panel invites individual or collaborative papers that examine the complex
intraregional or global connections, rivalries, dialogues, and parallels
generated within or by modern East Asian literatures. 250-word abstracts and
brief CVs by 15 March 2011, to Melek Ortabasi (mso1 at sfu.ca) and Michael
Emmerich (maikerue at gmail.com).
and

2.  “Recognition as Critique”
Examination of literary practices which provoke or hinder recognition of
subordinated and/or exploited groups, paying particular attention to
strategies of representation that destabilize or reinforce dominant group
norms. 250-word abstracts and brief CVs by 15 March 2011, to Henry Em (
henryem at nyu.edu) and Michael Emmerich (maikerue at gmail.com).
