Briefing on Korea Foundation Support Programs

2011 AAS, Honolulu, Hawaii

The Korea Foundation is pleased to announce a briefing session for its
Korean Studies support programs, along with an introduction of new
initiatives for university institutions in North America.

The Korea Foundation operates a variety of programs to encourage the
development of Korean Studies abroad through the establishment of
professorships, employment of teaching staff, dispatch of Korean
Studies visiting professors, and support for Korea-related activities.

In addition to institutional support programs, individual scholars are
offered an opportunity to secure fellowship assistance for field
research, Korean language training, graduate studies, and post-
doctoral studies.

In this way, the Korea Foundation seeks to build an epistemic
community through an integration of our existing support programs in
North America with its new initiatives: KF Global e-School, KF Global
Seminar, and KF Assembly.

The KF Global e-School program aims to expand the Korea-related
curriculum at universities, in addition to basic courses on Korea’s
history, culture, and language, by providing video lectures presented
by senior-level professors of prominent universities, related to such
areas as economic development, political science, international
relations, and contemporary society. The online lectures will be
supplemented with offline activities, including workshop and seminar
sessions.

The KF Global Seminar is intended to provide added insight into and
debate of fundamental global issues by facilitating the exchange of
innovative ideas and creative approaches, in an effort to promote the
well-being and security of the global community.

In 2011, to commemorate the Foundation’s 20th anniversary, we will
host a special KF Assembly gathering in Korea from July 6-9, 2011,
which includes the participation of Korea Foundation-supported
professors as well as the Directors of Korean Studies Centers and
honored guests.

The briefing session will be held in conjunction with the 2011 Annual
Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (Honolulu, Hawaii). We
encourage you to attend the briefing session for additional
information, along with welcoming any suggestions or thoughts that you
might have about these programs.
