those of
you living in Seoul might be interested in the first capacity building workshop
of the “EU-Korea Human Rights and Democratic Transition Dialogue Programme”,
organized by PSCORE (People for Successful Corean Unification) and
Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea, timely for the North Korea Human Rights week. 
The
first capacity building workshop of the “EU-Korea Human Rights and Democratic
Transition Dialogue Programme” titled ‘European-Korean Human Rights Dialogue:
The experience of promoting human rights in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and beyond‘, will be held on April 25, 2012. This important
event is supported by the European Union and co-organized by PSCORE and the
Hanns-Seidel-Foundation. 

The
aim is to present a non-violent way to oppose the human rights violations in North Korea based on how Eastern Europe dealt with human rights struggles during the Cold War. In
particular, the approach of non-violent struggle as described first in the
seminar book “The Politics of Nonviolent Struggle” and other publications by
Gene Sharp, as implemented e.g. by the Otpor Youth movement in Serbia and now
taught in the Centre for Applied NonViolent Action and Strategies in Belgrade
is a lesson worthwhile to discuss in Korea – always bearing in mind the
differences of the European and Korean situation. This workshop will also form
a connection between the EU and Korea. 

We
