[KS] A site identification?

Hello Professor Best, and other:

The online Korean History Database (한국사 데이터베이스) is a very good
place to check if certain place names (and personal names) appear in
major Korean historical records: http://db.history.go.kr/ What comes
up there is the very same footnote Professor Best refers to in his
posting, just the Korean translation of it: "경북 高靈郡 斗谷面 荷山에
비정된다."

Specuations ...
I would, with all reservations, speculate that the Japanese scholar who
wrote that footnote 13 might have been mixing up administrative units
(-gun and -li) and thus ended up in North Kyŏngsang-do instead of South
Kyŏngsang-do. And I do not think that the place you are trying to
identify was in Ch'angnyŏng county either as Matthieu Felt mentioned,
as there never was such Tugong-myŏn either. A Tugong-myŏn as such seems
to have never existed. I thus wonder if that Hasan (荷山) is Hasan-ni
belonging to Hamyang-gun in South Kyŏngsang-do (in Han'gŭl 경상남도 함양
군 하산리). At first sight that sure would make a lot of sense, as it
is known for what is called Hamyang's Sa'gŭnsansŏng Fortress (咸陽 沙斤
山城), well, the relatively well preserved (from what I see in the
Internet) remainders of that Three Kingdoms fortress:

***However***, I was not able to find the writing for 하산리 in Hanja
(in that location, in Hamyang-gun) … have a wonderful North Korean
handbook of administrative divisions of all Korea as a reprint from
China, but that is not with me now … and I could not verify this
online. Maybe someone else on the KS List can?

If you like to check out the site on a variety of (current all almost
current) maps, please go here:
http://koreaweb.ws/maps/?zoom=9&lat=35.89029&lon=128.40585&layers=00B00000000FTTTT
(s_l_o_w loading, sorry … possibly hit the ENTER button again … on
the right you can choose various maps without changing the location)

Best,
Frank
