Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Korean at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) 

The School of Asian Studies in the University of Auckland invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Fellow in Korean Studies, commencing February 2014 for a fixed term of two years (potentially renewable for up to a further two years).

Applicants should have a PhD in hand at the time of appointment and priority will be given to candidates with a specialisation in either Korean language teaching and learning or Korean linguistics, though candidates with a specialisation in a different discipline related to Korea may also apply.  The successful candidate will possess both a strong research plan, preferably with peer-reviewed publications in their specialist area, and experience at the tertiary level teaching Korean as a Foreign Language and/or as a Heritage Language.  S/he will be expected to carry out an active research programme in his/her area of specialisation and contribute to the delivery of the Korean language programme.

The School of Asian Studies is the largest centre for the study of Asia in New Zealand and teaches four subject areas: Asian Studies, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Language programmes are offered in the three languages and undergraduate students are required to combine language study with courses on the history, cultures and societies of their major.
The University of Auckland is New Zealand's leading research university and was ranked 46thin the world for Modern Languages in the 2013 QS survey.  Mercer's Annual Quality of Living survey ranked Auckland the world's third most liveable city in 2012. 

The starting salary is equivalent to a beginning level Lecturer (Assistant Professor in North America).  Applicants are requested to submit a CV, a sample of research writing, a lesson plan for a one hour Korean language class, a teaching video in digital video format and the contact details of three referees.
