Kim (or Kihm) was an established Alsatian family name, a sign of that being being the following old record online at http://danielengel.free.fr/html/engel/n156.htm#10446:

 Naissance :

          Date : 1635

          Lieu : Dambach-la-Ville Bas-Rhin France - Dambach-la-Ville 67 Bas-Rhin Alsace FRANCE

    Prénom : Catherine

          Nom de famille : KIM

But even more relevant is a list of the 14 communes in the department of Bas Rhin in which people with the family name Kim were born between 1891 and 1915 at http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/francecom.cgi?numero=0020048&periode=1&dept=67 as also a list of 15 Kims from the region born in the 19th century at http://www.geneanet.org/archives/actes/search.php?name=kim%2Bkihm&lang=fr while there is a list of over 50 Alsatian Kims at http://kr.ott.fr/public/toutes/ged2web/x00000e4.htm#KIM

But no Louis or Ludwig for or after the date in question, I fear, which is odd. Perhaps he died of the "Spanish flu"? Many did.
