May I invite you to join us from the evening of 15 October, until the afternoon of 17 October 2014 at the inaugural conference of the newly established International Institute of Korean Studies UCLAN (IKSU) on the theme of ‘ Korea as the nexus of East Asian peace and security: the policy imperatives, organised with Professor Kim Yongho, the Director of the Institute of North Korean Studies, Yonsei University and with the support of Lord David Alton, the Chair of the House of Lords all-Party Group on Korea. The conference focuses on the interaction of scholarship, policy and the media and confirmed speakers are listed below. The keynote speaker is Ambassador Donald Gregg, Chairman of the Pacific Century Institute in Los Angeles, Chairman Emeritus of The Korea Society in New York City, former US Ambassador to South Korea and former national security advisor to the then Vice President George Bush.
 
If you would like to attend the conference, please email Professor Hazel Smith by 30 April 2014 at hasmith2 at uclan.ac.uk as we have a limit on numbers in order to encourage maximum interaction and we expect to be over-subscribed. conference hotel is available at preferential rates and the conference will include buffet on Wednesday 15 October, Lunch and conference dinner 16 October, and lunch 17 October. We will book the hotel for confirmed attendees.
 
There are three conference grants, to include up to three nights accommodation in the conference hotel, meals, and the opportunity to present their research at the conference, available for early career researchers in the broad area of security and Korean studies, interpreted widely to include all aspects of human security. Details available from Professor Hazel Smith at hasmith2 at uclan.ac.uk. Expressions of interest should be made by 30 April 2014.

Logistics
·         For those attending from outside the UK, our nearest airport is Manchester.
·         If we know your flight details we will come and pick you up from Manchester airport and take you to the university (which is 50 miles North of Manchester) and take you back to the airport.
·         The nearest railway station is Preston which is minutes walking distance from the conference hotel and the conference centre.
