Dear list members,

No one has so far mentioned the perhaps earliest systematic study of Korean hats that was published (as pimaep'um) by the Silla-Kaya Culture Institute of Yoengnam University under the title <Han'guk ui kwanmo> in 1972. The authors are Sim Chae-wan and Yi Un-ch'ang. This study is confined to the Kyongsang province, but contains interesting text,
pictures, and drawings of men's and women's hats from earliest times to 1970.

In his self-portrait Ko Hui-dong certainly does not wear a court dress, but the usual attire of a gentleman with a triple chongja-gwan on his head.
