Exchange Program for Regional Integration in East Asia and Europe - EPRIE
2017

Migration, integration, and belonging
from June 21 to July 3, 2017 in East Asia (South Korea and Japan)

EPRIE 2017 will take a closer look at global migration patterns as well as
differences and similarities between migration policies in Europe and East
Asia. Is the rollback of migration policies in Europe part of a global
phenomenon? Is building walls a new trend in global migration policies?
While focusing on East Asia, we will discuss new trends and factors, which
play a significant role in current migration policies within the region. In
addition, we will discuss the different meanings of integration and the
belonging of migrants. Together with alumni, we will examine the effects of
migration on regional alliances and on nation states.

The program is open for young professionals and experts from civil society,
who actively contribute to the seminar by introducing their ideas and
perspectives, share their opinions, and discuss these with fellow
participants.

Eligible candidates are

- young practitioners and experts in the field, early postdoctoral
researchers, advanced graduate students

- with a special interest in the topic and willingness to connect with
others in the field

- expected to speak English fluently (program language)

- between 25 and 35 years old

- preferably of French, German, Polish, Chinese, Japanese or Korean
nationality. Applications from experts with other nationalities are also
welcome.

A committee will select 20 participants from the applications received.

Selected applicants will join us for a unique intercultural experience.
Through intensive dialogue in international working groups, ideas and views
are exchanged. In addition to gaining specialized knowledge, participants
will develop intercultural competencies. EPRIE provides a platform for
exchange that encourages participants to build a sustainable network for
cooperation.

All basic expenses during the program including accommodation, transfers and
meals are covered. However, participants are expected to pay their own
journey from their home country to the first conference location in Busan
(South Korea) and back from Tokyo (Japan). Overseas candidates can apply for
financial support.
