CFA: New Directions in the Study of Premodern Korea

August 21 to 26, 2017 at Leiden University

Leiden University invites graduate students and early-career scholars
in Korean and East Asian Studies to participate in an intensive
36-hour training workshop covering the major issues and debates in
premodern Korean Studies. Topics include early history, Koryŏ, social
history of Chosŏn, intellectual and literary developments, Eurasian
perspectives, and digital methods. Please note that this workshop is
not intended for anyone without prior exposure to the field of
premodern Korean Studies.

The workshop will take place at Leiden University from August 21 to
26, 2017. Participants are expected to be present throughout the
entire duration of the program. Funding of up to about €400 to cover
travel expenses, and 7 nights of hotel accommodation (shared twin
rooms) will be provided. Priority for funding will be given to
scholars based in Europe (including Russia). Applicants are strongly
encouraged to seek financial support from their own institutions.

Please submit a short paragraph (about 200 to 300 words) that
describes your interest in the workshop, proficiency in Korean and
literary Chinese, previous training or evidence of research in
premodern Korean Studies, and an estimate of travel costs. The
application should be sent to j.cha at hum.leidenuniv.nl by no later than
June 15, 2017.
