Call for Applications: Korean Literary Translation Residency 2021

We are delighted to announce that the next QTE residency will be for a
Korean-language writer and a Korean>English translator, and will take place
in spring 2021. The residency is generously supported by The Queen’s
College, Oxford and the Literary Translation Institute of Korea. The
residency will be virtual, so will not require either resident to travel to
Oxford. It will last for approximately two weeks, and take place between
April and June at a time convenient for the residents.

The residency will include time for the translator and writer to work
together on new versions, as well as to co-deliver virtual events. The pair
may already have worked together, or this residency may provide them with
their first opportunity to do so. The translator and writer will each
receive an honorarium of £600 (GBP). We hope to include the following
virtual events as part of the residency:

   - a bilingual reading and Q&A, hosted by QTE and open to all;
   - a collaborative translation project: groups of individuals work
   together via Zoom/email translating texts by the writer, curated by the
   translator (see e.g. our current collaborative virtual project
   <https://www.queens.ox.ac.uk/translation-workshops>);
   - a virtual translation masterclass, for students of Korean.

If you are a translator interested in applying for this residency, please
send us:

   - A covering letter detailing what you would like to work on in
   collaboration with the Korean writer, and ideas for online events (max.
   1000 words)
   - Your CV and a list of your published translations
   - A short biography of the Korean writer, including select publications
   (max. one page)
   - A sample of your translations, along with the original Korean texts.
   If you have already translated the Korean writer’s work, please include
   samples of this. Samples could be, for example, a chapter of prose or three
   poems.
   - The deadline for applications is 1 December 2020, and they should be
   sent to translation.exchange at queens.ox.ac.uk
