[KS] Lecture Video "Hunmin chŏngŭm / Han‘gŭl & IT – About the Particular Importance of Korean Script for Korean People and Culture –" by Dr. Albrecht Huwe (Professor Emeritus at University of Bonn)

Dear sir or madam, 
The Center for International Affairs at the Academy of Korean Studies (한국학중앙연구원) would like to share videos of the 85th Societas Koreana Lecture Meeting which was held on October 7th at the Academy of Korean Studies. The Societas Koreana program is an internationally recognized lecture program led by experts in each field and the lecture covers a variety of topics from Korean art and culture to Korean history. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lecture was delivered with no attendees.

During the lecture meeting, Dr. Albrecht Huwe, Professor emeritus at University of Bonn, Germany presented the lecture of “Hunmin chŏngŭm / Han‘gŭl & IT – About the Particular Importance of Korean Script for Korean People and Culture –". During the lecture, Dr. Huwe explained theimportance of Han‘gŭl, the Korean Alphabet, for Korean people and culture focusing ona book ‘Hunmin chŏngŭm’ which was created byKing Sejong and documented the purpose and principle of creating Han‘gŭl. Inaddition, he showed the development and history of Han‘gŭl. Lastly, he notedthat ‘Hunmin chŏngŭm’ is a scientific character created based on the Yin-Yang-FiveElements Cosmology. In commemoration of the574 th Han‘gŭl Day (October 9th) of the creation of‘Hunmin chŏngŭm’, this lecture provides an opportunity to remind of KingSejong's spirit and the history of our nation. Furthermore, we look forward to the possibility ofdevelopment in various academic fields through the combination of IT and‘Han‘gŭl’ which has been recognized for its scientific achievements worldwide.
