Announcement of publication of European Journal of Korean Studies Vol 21 (1)

The European Journal of Korean Studies aims to be the leading peer-reviewed, citation-indexed outlet for academic output in Europe in the English language, providing European and global scholars of Korea a venue that we know has been much in demand, long called for, and greatly anticipated.

Papers in this issue consider the importance of word order in sentence construction in Korean translation practice, notions of diasporic entitlement for Chosŏnjok in South Korea, diplomatic histories in the last years of Chosŏn, architectural history in Korea and the place of science, efficiency, and hygiene in that history, the lives of Korean deportees to Uzbekistan in 1937, and two papers on cinematic representations of history and traditional storytelling in both Koreas. This issue also includes a special section ' Encounters and Exchanges between Korea and the Islamicate Past & Present' looking at interactions, engagements and contestations between Islam and Korea, guest edited by Farrah Sheikh of SOAS, University of London. The European Journal of Korean Studies Vol 20 (1) also offers reviews of some of the most intriguing recent book-length writing, including reviews of Katherine In-Young Lee's Dynamic Korea and Rhythmic Form and Andreas Schirmer's, edited volume, Central Europeans in Korea: Alice Schalek, Alma Karlin, Fritz Hansgirg, and Many Others.

We welcome new writing by scholars from Europe, Korea, Australasia, and beyond. We take a detailed approach to peer review and copy editing, are committed to diversity and take particular pride in our work with early career scholars. The journal appears twice a year, has an ISSN number and is now a member of Crossref.  The European Journal of Korean Studies is indexed in SCOPUS and ESCI/Web of Science, has been accepted for integration into the Modern Languages Association International Bibliography and the MLA Directory of Periodicals, and is under review for inclusion in SSCI/Web of Science.
