Papers in this issue consider the place of ideology and critique in the life of one of North Korea's most famous dancers, the struggles and successes of Indonesian expatriates adjusting to life in South Korea, a comparison of events of mass murder in South Korea and the United States of America, South Korean mobile payment platforms and public perceptions of their useability and security, the history of the Anti-Chosun Movement and its place in memory and history politics between 1998 and 2002, the names Korean shamans have historically used to refer to smallpox, and South Korea's trot boom and its retro or newtro aesthetics. The European Journal of Korean Studies Vol 21 (2) also offers a review of some of the most intriguing recent book-length writing, including reviews of Seo Young Park's fascinating account of the Tongdaemun garment industry, Stitching the 24-Hour City: Life, Labor, and the Problem of Speed in Seoul.

We welcome new writing by scholars from Europe, Korea, Australasia, and beyond. We take a detailed approach to peer review and copy editing, are committed to diversity, and take particular pride in our work with early career scholars. The journal appears twice a year, has an ISSN number and is now a member of Crossref.  The European Journal of Korean Studies is indexed in SCOPUS and ESCI/Web of Science, as well as having been included in the Modern Languages Association International Bibliography and the MLA Directory of Periodicals, and is under review for inclusion in SSCI/Web of Science.
