Dear Colleagues:

The Asian Law and Society Association (ALSA) is pleased to announce the
Call for Papers for the 2024 ALSA Annual Meeting to be held on 13-14
December 2024, hosted by Sungkyunkwan University, School of Law, Seoul,
Korea.
A Junior Scholars Workshop will be held on 12 December 2024.

*Conference Theme:* *'Whose Law, Whose Voices? Constructing Legal Stories
in Asia'*

This year's conference theme invites participants to share their
perspectives on legal narratives and practice across the Asian continent.
This theme prompts an exploration of the diverse voices that contribute to
the construction of legal frameworks, reflecting the nuanced interplay
between tradition and change. The conference seeks to examine whose
narratives shape legal discourse and explore how they influence legal
conversations and transformations in Asia. The aim is to foster dialogue
that evaluates whose perspectives are represented within legal narratives,
emphasizing the
importance of inclusivity and diversity in shaping an equitable
representative legal landscape across Asia.

In addition, the theme invites reflection on how contestations of power
influence legal discourse in the global contexts of environmental
protection, digital technology, market forces, and social change. For
example, how do the voices of indigenous peoples, women, minorities, and
activists challenge or transform the dominant legal narratives in Asia? How
do the legal stories of Asia interact with the global legal narratives of
human rights, democracy, and justice? How do the emerging technologies
create, shape, and disseminate legal narratives in Asia?

ALSA 2024 also welcomes proposals on any topic concerning the relationship
between law and society in Asia.
