Dear colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well as the year comes to a close.

This is a brief reminder of the Call for Papers for the 9th Annual
Conference of the Social Science Korean Studies Network in Europe (SoKEN),
hosted by the Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS), University of Turku, on
9–10 April 2026.

Conference theme:
Democratic Resilience and Social Movements in South Korea: Challenges and
Future Prospects

The conference also celebrates the 20th anniversary of CEAS, and we are
pleased to welcome Professor Kang Won-taek (Seoul National University) as
the keynote speaker.

We invite paper proposals from the social sciences broadly defined. While
the conference theme focuses on democracy and social movements in South
Korea, submissions on any aspect of contemporary Korean society are
welcome. PhD students and early-career researchers are also encouraged to
apply.

Key dates:

- Abstract submission deadline: 9 February 2026 (17:00 Helsinki time)

- Notification of acceptance: Early March 2026

- Full paper submission: 15 March 2026

* Limited travel funding may be available for accepted participants (Visa
support cannot be provided)
