The European Journal of Korean Studies aims to be the leading peer-reviewed, citation-indexed outlet for academic output in Europe on Korea in the English language, providing European and global scholars of Korea a venue that we know has been much in demand, long called for, and greatly anticipated.

Papers in the special issue (guest edited by Vladimir Tikhonov of the University of Oslo)within this issue explore the life, work and times of the Korean-Swedish linguist Cho Seung-bog, based on deep archival work at Uppsala University and other institutions as well as his personal papers and diaries. Further papers consider new perspectives on the 1876 Kanghwa Treaty between Korea and Japan utilising Russian language archival materials, the use of mythology in intercultural teaching focused on Korea in Turkish institutions and linguistic analysis of the practice of abbreviation in contemporary Korean. The European Journal of Korean Studies Vol 24 (2) also offers reviews of some of the most intriguing recent book-length writing, including Holmer Brochlos's Sprachgebrauch in Nordkorea, Han Jin-myung and Nicolas Lévi's J’étais Diplomate Nord-Coréen and Konstantin Asmolov and Luidmila Zakharova's, Современная Северная Корея: первое

We welcome new writing by scholars from Europe, Korea, Australasia, and beyond. We take a detailed approach to peer review and copy editing, are committed to diversity, and take particular pride in our work with early career scholars. The journal appears twice a year, has an ISSN number and is now a member of Crossref.
