2026 Announcement of Kyujanggak SJKS Fellowship Program

The International Center for Korean Studies (ICKS) of Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (KIKS) announces its Seoul Journal of Korean Studies fellowship programs for the year 2026.

Eligibility 
- Any Korean Studies researcher who is a full-time faculty member at a non-Korean university, OR post-doctoral researcher from a non-Korean university who is working on topics related to Korean Studies
 ※ A minimum of three-month residence at Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (KIKS) is required.
 ※ Former Kyujanggak Fellows (Fellow A) are also eligible to apply.

Benefits
- Research grant up to KRW 9 million (3 million paid monthly for maximum 3 months until February 2027)
 ※ Grants, stipends or other forms of payment from other institutions during the fellowship are not permitted.
- Eligibility for on-campus housing 
 ※ All housing-related expenses are the applicant’s responsibility. The International center for Korea Studies (ICKS) facilitates application for the BK Residence - Halls at Seoul National University (SNU). Placement is not guaranteed.
 ※ If you or your spouse own real estate in Seoul, you are not eligible to apply.
 ※ Only your legal spouse and child(ren) are permitted to reside with you in the BK Residence Halls.
- Round-trip airfare up to KRW 1 million (for economy class tickets only) 
 ※ The itinerary of the tickets must closely approximate the fellowship period.
 ※ Reimbursement is available when fellows from their original foreign-affiliated institutions come to Korea.
 ※ Tickets purchased with mileage points cannot be reimbursed.

- Administrative support (Insurance is the applicant’s responsibility)

Position & Period of Appointment
- SJKS fellows will be appointed as visiting researchers of the SNU.
- The term of appointment will be between 3 to 6 months, and may begin from April 1, 2026 at the earliest.
 ※ The fellowship period must begin on the first day of a month, in compliance with the appointment schedule of the SNU.
 ※ Upon being selected, fellows must confirm their fellowship period to the ICKS and set their dates of entry to and exit from Korea.
 ※ The fellowship appointment may be cancelled if a fellow disregards his/her confirmed fellowship schedule by adjusting it arbitrarily without prior consultation with the ICKS.

Obligations
- Presentation: one presentation of research findings at the SJKS Fellowship Research Presentation during the fellowship period
- Journal submission: one submission of a research article to the Seoul Journal of Korean Studies (SCOPUS & ESCI-indexed), published by the KIKS, within 3 months of the conclusion of fellowship
- Report on research results: one 10-page written report on the outcome of the fellowship research within a month from the conclusion of the fellowship
- Acknowledgement of support: citing the affiliation with the KIKS when publishing any work done during the fellowship period, and providing the ICKS with a printed copy of such publication.
- Participation in events: active participation in academic events such as symposia, colloquia, book talks, and workshops hosted by the KIKS, and full cooperation in ICKS affairs (upon request and limited to 5% of the fellowship period)
- Residency requirement: The total length of stay outside Korea during the fellowship period may not exceed 30 days. A pre-departure consultation with the ICKS about the destination, duration, and purpose of stay outside Korea is required.

Application Procedure
- How to apply: 
 ① Send an application form to the ICKS email (icks at snu.ac.kr mailto:icks at snu.ac.kr) within the application period
 ② Have your letters of recommendation sent to the ICKS either by email or by post within the application period
- Documents required for application:
 ① Cover letter (approx. 2 pages)
 ② Curriculum vitae
 ③ Research proposal (approx. 5 A4 pages; research topic and methods must be specified)
 ④ Sample research (2 pieces)
 ⑤ Letters of recommendation (from 2 recommenders)
 ※ If using email, the recommenders must send the letters to the ICKS(icks at snu.ac.kr mailto:icks at snu.ac.kr.). If using postal mail, the recommenders must seal the envelops with their signatures and send the letters to the ICKS (#451 Bldg.103 Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies, Seoul National University, 1 Gwanak-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul 08826 Republic of Korea)
 ※ For applicants for the 2026 Kyujanggak Fellowship, previously submitted letters of recommendation may be substituted.

2026년도 규장각한국학연구원 서울저널 펠로십 모집

○ 신청 자격
 - 해외 대학 전임교원으로 소속되어있는 한국학 연구자, 또는 해외 대학 박사 취득자
 - 연구 시작일 기준 3개월 이상 6개월 이하 기간의 방문 연구가 가능한 자
 ※ 기존에 규장각 펠로(펠로A)로 지원받은 경험이 있는 자도 지원 가능

○ 연구 분야 (선발 기준)
 - 규장각 소장 자료를 이용한 연구
 - 한국의 문화, 역사, 정치, 사회 등에 관한 연구

○ 연구 지원 내용
 - 연구지원금 최대 900만원 (매월 300만원씩 최장 3개월간 2027년 2월까지 지급)
※ 임용기간 중 타 기관의 지원금을 이중 수혜할 수 없음
 - 서울대학교 교직원아파트(BK생활관) 신청 지원 (거주 관련한 일체의 비용은 개인 부담)
 ※ 서울에 본인 또는 배우자 명의의 주택이 있으면 BK생활관 입주 자격이 없음
 ※ 가족과 함께 거주 신청 시 가족증명서 제출 필요 (동거 자격은 배우자와 자녀에 한정)
 ※ 입주 신청이 입주를 보장하지는 않음
 - 왕복 항공료 최대 100만원 지원(이코노미(일반)석 실비 지급)
 ※ 항공료 지원은 입국 및 출국일을 연구 시작 및 종료일에 맞춰 발급한 항공권에 한함
 ※ 펠로의 본래 외국 소속 기관에서 한국으로 들어올 경우에 해당함
 ※ 항공사 마일리지를 사용하여 구매한 항공권의 경우 항공료 환급 불가
 - 서울대학교 도서관 출입증 (S-card 발급 지원)
 - 규장각 내 연구 공간 제공
 - 비자 신청을 포함한 각종 행정적 지원 (※ 보험은 행정적 지원에 포함되지 않음)

○ 지위 및 연구 기간
 - 서울저널 펠로는 규장각한국학연구원 객원연구원(서울대학교총장 발령)의 지위를 가진다.
 - 연구 시작일은 2026년 4월 1일 이후로 설정하고, 기간은 3개월 이상 6개월 이하로 한다.
 ※ 연구 시작일은 서울대학교 연구원 임용·위촉 일정에 맞춰 각 월의 1일로 설정한다.
 ※ 펠로 선발 후에는 입국, 출국 날짜를 확정하여 연구기간을 지키는 것을 원칙으로 한다.
 ※ 입국일 및 출국일을 자의적으로 조정하는 등 연구기간을 준수하지 않을 때에는 객원연구원 임용·위촉이 취소될 수 있다.

○ 연구 활동 상 의무
 - 최초 펠로십 기간 중 1회 서울저널 펠로십 연구발표회에서 연구 성과를 발표해야 한다.
 - 연구 종료 후 1개월 안에 결과보고서를 제출해야 한다.(지정된 형식 사용. A4 10장 분량)
 - 연구 종료 전 3개월 안에 펠로십 기간 중 수행한 연구 성과를 규장각한국학연구원이 발행하는 영문학술지 Seoul Journal of Korean Studies (Scopus, ESCI 등재)에 투고해야 한다. 
 - 펠로십 기간 중 수행한 연구 결과를 출판할 때 규장각한국학연구원의 지원을 받았음을 명시해야 하며, 인쇄된 출판물 1부를 규장각 국제한국학센터에 제출해야 한다.
 - 컬로퀴엄, 심포지엄, 저자특강 등 규장각한국학연구원에서 개최하는 다양한 학술행사에 적극적으로 참여해야 한다.
 - 국제한국학센터의 요청이 있을 시 학술행사 관련 업무(번역, 토론 등)에 적극적으로 협조한다. 단, 업무협조 시간은 총 연구 기간의 5%를 넘지 않도록 한다.
 - 해외 학술행사 참석 등의 이유로 출국하는 경우, 반드시 사전에 규장각에 체류지, 체류기간, 체류목적을 통보해야 한다. 국외 체류는 펠로십 기간 내 총 7일을 초과할 수 없다.
 - 펠로십 기간 중 타 사업장과 고용계약을 맺을 수 없으며, 규장각한국학연구원의 승낙 없이는 타 기관에 출강할 수 없다.

 ※ 추천서는 추천인이 직접 보내어 모집 기간 내에 접수시켜야 하며, email 발송 시 icks at snu.ac.kr mailto:icks at snu.ac.kr로 보내고, 우편 발송 시 추천인의 서명으로 봉인하여 규장각 국제한국학센터(08826 서울시 관악구 관악로 1, 서울대학교 103동 451호)로 보낸다.
 ※ 2026년도 규장각 펠로십 지원자의 경우, 기존에 제출된 추천서로 갈음이 가능하다.

 - 신청 기간: 공지일 ~ 2026년 2월 3일(화) 24:00(한국시간기준)
 - 결과 발표: 2026년 2월 말경 개별통지
