Greetings from the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies.

We are pleased to present you with No. 62 of Kyujanggak Sague (Kyujanggak Quarterly Newsletter) to esteemed teachers and scholars who take an interest in Korean studies.

The cover of this issue features the “Yeongwol-bu (寧越府)” map from Gwangyeodo (廣輿圖, Illustrated Map of the Provinces), a treasured item in our institute’s collection. On this map, readers can explore Cheongnyeongpo (淸泠浦), the place of King Danjong’s (端宗) exile, which became more widely known as a key setting in the film Wanggwa saneun namja (The Man Who Lives with the King); Changjeolsa (彰節祠), which enshrines the spirit tablets of the Six Martyred Ministers (死六臣) and the Six Surviving Ministers (生六臣); and Jangneung (莊陵), King Danjong’s tomb, among other notable sites.
