Dear Koreanists,
My name is En Young Ahn. I am a PhD student at Visual Arts Department,
Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
My PhD thesis is a comparative study of the Western and Korean
aesthetics.
It questions the 'translatability' (Derrida's sense) of the Western
discourse of aesthetics. The thesis aims to construct a 'Korean
aesthetic', using a terminology and conceptual framework which draws
upon Korea's own intellectual tradition and language.
Since 1994 after completing my MA thesis, I have been searching for
scholars who are specialized in the ontology and philosophy of Korean
language. As my back ground is the visual arts practice, I felt the
limit of my ability to theorize the ideas developed in my MA thesis.
However, I felt the realization of my PhD thesis as a kind of
obligation. I joined the Korean-studies lists in hoping to find such a
scholar or scholars whom I have been searching for.
Meanwhile, I am seeking a little technical advice. I have a laptop,
Toshiba 410CDT, which runs Window 95. I'd like to install a program,
which I can create Korean (with Chinese characters) language files,
write email in Korean, without interfering with my existing English
programs.
Thank you for your attention.
