Actually, my sources tell me that teachers who are members of the Korean Teachers Union (전교조) specifically told their students during class hours to attend the early rallies. So then the next question is who were these teachers allied with? Well, here's a start:

Whoever it was who got the beef rallies going early on, it certainly wasn't middle-school and high-school students, who were merely used as naive pawns -- or "extras" to be more precise -- in a very cynical adults' game.
