===============================================

The Department of Chinese and Korean Studies of the Asia-Orient Institute (AOI), Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, Germany, invites applications for the position

Assistant Professor (Junior professor) in Korean Studies

The position offered is available for four years. Depending on a positive evaluation, it will be extended for two additional years.

In research and teaching, the ideal candidate is expected to specialize in social and/or cultural studies, concentrating on modern and contemporary Korea. The person selected must have fluency in spoken and written Korean. The position includes four hours of teaching, which will increase to six hours after the evaluation. In teaching, the applicant is expected to represent the field of Korean Studies in its full scale. The position is integrated in the interdisciplinary Asia Orient Institute of the Faculty of Cultural Studies. The candidate is expected to participate in research projects to be established at the AOI as well as in inter-faculty institutions. Through independently fulfilling all specific university requirements in the fields of research and teaching, the holder of the position is expected to qualify for appointment as a university professor. In case of a positive evaluation of the section of Korean Studies and adequate financial resources provided, the university considers changing the position into a tenured W-3 professorship. This, however, would require a new open call for candidates.

Requirements for an appointment are: a) outstanding Ph.D. dissertation in the field of Korean Studies b) internationally recognized publications c) acquisition of external funds d) didactic qualification.

The University of Tuebingen is an equal-opportunity employer and wishes to increase the number of female scholars in research and teaching. Therefore, applications from female scholars with suitable qualifications are explicitly encouraged. With equal qualifications, priority will be given to physically challenged applicants.

Applications with the usual documents (CV, copies of diplomas and related documents, lists of publications and teaching experience) are to be sent to: Universitaet Tuebingen, Dekan der Fakultaet fuer Kulturwissenschaften, Hoelderlinstr. 19, 72074 Tuebingen, Germany. Closing date for applications is May 15, 2009.
