The Faculty of History, Art and Oriental Studies at the University of 
Leipzig will fill the following professorship starting October 1, 2009:

*W2-Professorship Culture/Society of modern Korea/East Asia*

Initially, this is a limited term position (five years); subject to 
performance and programme evaluation it may be made permanent without 
conducting a new search (§ 59 Abs. 2 Nr. 1 SächsHSG). The successful 
candidate should possess a methodological profile in the social sciences 
or cultural studies, with a research emphasis on modern Korea in its 
global and East Asian context (19^th to 21^st c.). In addition to 
Korean, he/she should be proficient in at least one other East Asian 
language. The candidate?s course offerings will be part of a new 
graduate programme in East Asian Studies and hence need to address 
social and cultural processes (including popular culture) in Korea and 
East Asia in such a manner as to facilitate interdisciplinary 
cooperation with other departments in the social sciences as well as in 
area and cultural studies.

Rights and obligations of the faculty member derive from the 
?Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz? (SächsHSG) and the ?Sächsische 
Dienstaufgabenverordnung.? Applicants need to qualify under the rules of 
employment stipulated by §58 SächsHSG. One of the key requirements 
stipulated by this law is possession of a postdoctoral degree 
(?Habilitation?) or equivalent scholarly achievements.

Female candidates are specifically encouraged to apply. Candidates with 
disabilities will be given preference if they possess equal qualifications.

Letters of application should be accompanied by a CV, list of 
publications, list of courses taught (including teaching evaluations if 
available), and a notarized copy of the candidate?s highest academic 
degree certificate.
