The Faculty of East Asian Studies at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, is
seeking to appoint a
*Professor of East Asian Politics (full professorship, tenured, W3
salary bracket)*
to start at the earliest possible date.
The successful applicant will represent the subject area of East Asian
Politics in its entire scope, including the history of political ideas,
in research and teaching.
Candidates should have proven competency in at least two of the three
core regions: China, Japan and Korea. An excellent command of at least
one of the three East Asian languages is essential.
The post holder will be expected to convey cross-regional and
cross-cultural perspectives in his or her teaching.
We expect the successful applicant to teach core and electives courses
in both the B.A. programme "East Asian Economy and Politics" and the
M.A. Programme "East Asian Politics". The study programmes are offered
in cooperation with the Faculties of Economics and Social Sciences.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute actively to
interdisciplinary research and teaching projects in the Faculty. Further
to this, he or she should be committed to expanding the Faculty's
international network with partners in East Asia and other parts of the
world.
Qualifications for appointment include a positively evaluated junior
professorship, post-doctoral qualification equivalent to the German
Habilitation or equivalent academic achievement as well as strong
teaching skills and a willingness to participate in the university's
academic self-administration.
Further requirements include:

the willingness and proven ability to attract outside research funding

the ability to work across disciplines and cooperate on joint
research initiatives

university teaching competencies and a strong commitment to teaching
