Postscript:
Dr. Sargent, it just occurred to me: you just helped dating that 
coconut-shell snuff bottle (link was in my last posting) that obviously 
has a date inscribed according to the sexagenary cycle. So, it is then 
not from 1875 as the collectors seem to think makes more sense, but 
from 1815, is thus 60 years older. That is a wonderful example of how 
two (classical) fields like literature and art history can enhance each 
other.
