The Association for Korean Studies in Europe (AKSE) announces its annual travel grant to support European-based AKSE members who will present papers at the upcoming Association for Asian Studies conference in Toronto in March.

Support comes from the Korea Foundation and has, in the past supported the airline and hotel expenses of two scholars presenting papers. Applicants must be members of AKSE to qualify. Preference will be given to scholars who have not attended an AAS annual meeting before. Support is particularly intended for younger scholars, but does not exclude more senior researchers.

Applicants should send the following documents to Dr. JB Lewis (jay.lewis at orinst.ox.ac.uk) for circulation to the AKSE Council.
--Proof of paper acceptance for presentation at the AAS Conference
--Abstract of paper and abstract of panel
--Projected budget for airline ticket and hotel costs (copy of airline reservation receipt with cost is required) and a statement as to whether the applicant already has funding for airfare and hotel expenses.

Deadline: February 10
Notification: February 26

All documents must be submitted electronically as pdf files and all documents should be submitted together and at the same time to avoid misplacement or loss. AKSE is not responsible for incomplete applications, because applicants submit documents at separate times or fail to put their names on all documents. Awardees will be required to complete a reimbursement form http://www.akse.uni-kiel.de/index.php?topic=grants_research&id=84, submit receipts as sorted according to category (travel, accommodation, meals), paste the receipts onto A4 sheets, list them on the form, and mail everything to:

Dr. Koen De Ceuster
Centre for Korean Studies
PO Box 9515
2300 RA Leiden
The Netherlands

Reimbursement is in EURO only. Awardees will have to also include the IBAN and BIC of their bank accounts (British accounts also have IBAN and BIC, even though these are not used in Britain - awardees may have to ask their bank).
