Dear all,

Just a friendly reminder about 2014-15 Korea Foundation Postdoctoral
Fellowship at UPenn (see below). Please note that although not stated in
the earlier announcement, recommendation letter writers are to email
their letters directly to the Kim Program but of course separately from

Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships (2014-15)

    James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies
    <http://www.sas.upenn.edu/koreanstudies/index.html> at the
    University of Pennsylvania welcomes applications
    for postdoctoral fellowship at UPenn, funded by the Korea
    Foundation's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Applicants will apply
    simultaneously to the Korea Foundation and Penn. Selection by the
    university does not guarantee selection by the Korea Foundation,
    but Penn will advise the Korea Foundation of its selected
    candidate(s). Scholars must have received their Ph.D. on a subject
    related to Korea (in the humanities or social
    sciences) within 5 years of January 31, 2014 and cannot currently
    hold a regular faculty position.*Confirmation of doctoral degree
    conferral will be required by July 1, 2014, and no exception will be
    allowed. *South Korean nationals are eligible to apply only if they
    have permanent residency status in another country.

    (1) Before submitting a complete application package to the Korea
    Foundation, please email Penn Kim Program's Ms. Melissa
    DiFrancesco<meljen at sas.upenn.edu> <mailto:meljen at sas.upenn.edu>, by
    *January 10, 2014* , one PDF file including the following from the
    KF application package (three letters of recommendations are to be
    emailed directly by recommenders):
         - a cover letter (this will be the "request");
         - a completed KF application form;
         - a c.v.; and
         - a research proposal

    (2) Upon receiving the request, the Kim Program will review it along
    with all others before notifying every requester of our decision by
    the KF application deadline of *January 31, 2014* (by which the
    requesters will also have to submitted their application packages to
    the foundation). We will be notifying the foundation and the
    requesters of our decision by that date. When submitting the
    application package to the foundation, the requester will have to
    attach a copy of the request (i.e. the cover letter sent to the Kim
    Program).

    (3) As soon as KF announces its decision by May 2014, the Kim
    program would like the requester to let us know whether or not (s)he
    will be coming to Penn after all.

    The Kim Program will provide the Korea Foundation postdoctoral
    fellow with shared office space, library access, and the necessary
    practical and administrative assistance. The fellow will be required to:
         -prepare publications as expected by tenure-track academic
    positions in the fellow's discipline;
         -participation in academic activities of the Kim Program; and
         -teach a course (optional)
