I would also recommend The Useless Servants by Rolando Hinojosa and The Surrendered by Chang Rae Lee. Both of these are novels but excerpts can be assigned.

Dear Colleagues:
 
I’m teaching a course in the spring term on “The Cross Cultural Experiences of War” which deals with US wars in Asia….WW II, Korean War, and Vietnam.
 
I’m using fiction in part to get students to think about how these wars have affected our attitudes and relations with East Asia.   I am using Heinz Insu Fenkl’s  wonderful “Memories of My Ghost Bother” to cover Korean War aftermaths…..but
 I was wondering if there is some new translation collections from Korean of short stories centered around the War that I might use as well.
