Dear Colleagues in Korean Studies

I have received a request to forward information about a new position at the University of Alabama in Religion, Global Conflict, and Law. Please see the information below and the pdf advertisement.

The University of Alabama has a tenure track job opening (posted on the AAR/SBL website) titled Religion, Global Conflict, and Law that we would like to distribute to people involved in the Korean Religions group of the AAR. The parameters of the position do not fit traditional categories, prompting our interest to alert a wide range of potential candidates. If you have a listserve or other means to disseminate to people interested in Korean Religions (or directly know of good candidates), would it be possible to disseminate an announcement of this position (pasted below and attached)?

Thank you for your assistance,
Steven Ramey

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning August 2014. The position in Religion, Global Conflict, and Law willanchor one of three tracks in the department’s new curriculum. Proficient in critical and social theory, the ideal candidate will analyze the roles played by legal and religious systems in cross-cultural conflicts (whether physical, economic, racial, ethnic, or social). While the research specialty, region, and historical area are open, they should complement without reproducing the expertise of current faculty in the department.

At the time of hire, the ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in the academic study of religion or related area; however, candidates who are ABD nearing completion will be considered. All applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching excellence along with an active and on-going research agenda. The regular teaching load is two courses per semester, with typically one upper level and one lower level large enrollment course each semester.

The Department of Religious Studies (http://religion.ua.edu/) is an undergraduate degree-granting unit in a Tier I public university.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled, with the possibility of meeting representatives of the search committee at the American Academy of Religion meeting in Baltimore. Applicants are required to apply online (https://facultyjobs.ua.edu/postings/34374), submitting: a C.V.; a cover letter; statement of teaching philosophy; and an essay-length writing sample. Applicants may later be contacted for at leastthree letters of recommendation and sample syllabi.

Direct any inquiries to the Search Committee Chair, Steven Ramey, at sramey at as.ua.edu<mailto:sramey at as.ua.edu>, (205) 348-4218.
