    Basing his dissertation concerning the "Record of Lady Sa's Journey South" on studies of the original text of Sa Ssi namjônggi by Kim Man-jung (1637-1692) (Sa Ssi namjeonggi by Gim Man-jung) and on its translation into Chinese by Kim Ch'un-t'aek (1670-1717) (Gim Chun-taek), Bouchez began by presenting the text of this work in chapter 1 ("Présentation de l'ouvrage"). He then provided a literary analysis that dealt with Lady Xie, feminine virtue, concubinage, the structure of this story, and its originality; discussed the author and the text; and closed with a chapter on the relationship between Lady Xie and Queen Min. Bouchez indicated, inter alia, that this "story was read as a moral tale", that the "features which made Lady Xie into a model of feminine virtues were given prominence", and that "at the hands of its copyists, this refined aristocratic work deteriorated into popular style literature". He concluded that Namjônggi, as traditionally asserted in Korea, was first and foremost a political novel. Note: In addition to his doctorate in Korean Studies, Bouchez studied for the degrees of License d'enseignement en Philosophie (1950) at the Université de Lille [University of Lille], License de théologie (1955) at the Institut catholique de Paris [Catholic University of Paris], and License de théologie (1957) at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He taught at the Catholic Seminary in Seoul between 1958 and 1970, and served as President of the Association for Korean Studies in Europe between 1986 and 1988.
