Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships (2014-15) *- application to apply
for the fellowship through the James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies
is now open until January 27, 2014 (Please see below for more
information). *

The James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies

the University of Pennsylvania welcomes applications for a
postdoctoral fellowship at Penn, funded by the Korea
Foundation’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Applicants will apply
simultaneously to the Korea Foundation and Penn. Selection by the
university *does not guarantee* selection by the Korea Foundation,
but Penn will advise the Korea Foundation of its selected candidate(s).
Scholars must have received their Ph.D. on a subject related to Korea (in
the humanities or social sciences) within 5 years of January 31,
2014 and cannot currently hold a regular faculty position.* Confirmation of
doctoral degree conferral will be required by July 1, 2014, and no
exception will be allowed. *South Korean nationals are eligible to apply
only if they have permanent residency status in another country.


(1) Applicants must apply simultaneously to the Korea Foundation, and to
the James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies. The KF online application
is available now until February 4, 2014. The application deadline for the
James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies is Monday, January 27, 2014.
When submitting a complete application package to the Korea Foundation's
website  <https://apply.kf.or.kr/main.nkf>, please download your
application as one PDF file and email it to Penn Kim Program
<kim-pks at sas.upenn.edu> <meljen at sas.upenn.edu> by *Monday, January 27,
2014* (the
three letters of recommendations are to be e-mailed directly by
recommenders to <kim-pks at sas.upenn.edu> <meljen at sas.upenn.edu>. The KF
application package includes:

    - a cover letter (this will be the "request");

    - a completed KF application form;

    - a c.v.; and

    - a research proposal

(2) Upon receiving the application, the Kim Program will review it along
with all others before notifying every applicant of our decision by the KF
application deadline of *February 4, 2014* (by which the requesters will
also have to submitted their application packages to the foundation). We
will notify the foundation and the applicants of our decision by that date.
When submitting the application package to the foundation, the applicant
will have to attach a copy of the request (i.e. the cover letter sent to
the Kim Program).

(3) As soon as KF announces its decision by May 2014, the Kim program would
like the requester to let us know whether or not (s)he will be coming to
Penn.

The Kim Program will provide the Korea Foundation postdoctoral fellow with
shared office space, library access, and the necessary practical and
administrative assistance. The fellow will be required to:

    -prepare publications as expected by tenure-track academic positions in
the fellow's discipline;

    -participation in academic activities of the Kim Program; and

The three letters of reference can either be e-mailed to Penn Kim Program
at kim-pks at sas.upenn.edu <meljen at sas.upenn.edu>, or mailed to:
