Research Associate Position in Korean Art

University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA)

Period of Work: Fall 2015 – Summer 2016

Effort/Hours/Week: 15-20 hours/month

Hourly Pay Rate: $20-25 depending on qualifications

The University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) is seeking a research
associate of Korean art who will work with the Curator of Asian Art on the
reinstallation of UMMA’s Woon-Hyung Lee and Korea Foundation Gallery of
Korean Art.

The research associate will be involved in research, interpretation and
writing on UMMA’s collection of Korean art that holds more than 450 objects
including ceramics, paintings, lacquer wares, and folk art pieces from the
archaeological period to the present. This is an hourly, part-time
position, which will start in late fall 2015 and end in summer 2016. The
hourly rate will be $20-$25 depending on the applicant’s qualifications and
experience. The research associate is not required to live locally,
although he or she is required to be able to make at least one trip to Ann
Arbor, MI, paid by UMMA, to see and research the collection. It is a great
opportunity for an advanced graduate students or junior-level scholar who
wants to know more about UMMA’s Korean art collection and to gain work
experience in a museum setting. The Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage
Foundation, South Korea, funds this position and project.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a strong background in Korean art
history and an ability to conduct primary research in the Korean language.
A Master’s degree in art history or related field is required as well as a
native-level proficiency of the Korean language. Must be able to work
independently but take direction. Must be able to meet deadlines and
deliver products on an agreed-to schedule.

Please send a cover letter stating your qualifications and experience
pertaining to this position and resume to Natsu Oyobe, Ph.D., Curator of
