Dear Korean Studies community,

Thus the likely timeline is:
Shortlisting of candidates completed by end 4th week of May.
Interviews and campus visits commencing early to mid June.

Professor, Korean Studies

The ANU, with the generous support of the Korea Foundation, is seeking a Professor of Korean studies to lead its well-established Korean studies program. We seek an internationally recognized senior scholar who will bring commitment, new ideas and enthusiasm to the role. A scholar with expertise in the study of pre-modern or early modern Korea is preferred, to complement the strengths of the established Korean Studies program at ANU, but all fields are welcome to apply.

Candidates should have a distinguished publication record, extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education, and demonstrated achievements in academic leadership, commensurate with a senior Professorial appointment.

A high level of proficiency in Korean is essential to be able to fulfil the research, administrative, outreach and teaching aspects of this position. Capacity to teach an advanced reading class in Korean in the candidate's area of expertise, or other involvement with the language program, would be particularly welcome.

The teaching load in the School is three courses per annum. The appointee will also be expected to assume, in due course, the (rotational) role of Director of the ANU Korea Institute.

The successful applicant will be responsible for fostering excellence in the ANU Korean studies program by way of close collaboration with colleagues, partners and stakeholders within Australia and abroad, including public offices and the media.
