"A Loving Father and His Children,"
Song Byeok

The North Korean diaspora living in South Korea, China, Europe, and
elsewhere number close to half a million. Moving beyond the identities of
refugees and defectors, this conference explores the culture and politics
of this diaspora through activism and art. What is the ethnographic history
of the North Korean diaspora? What is the terrain of activism by and for
the North Korean people? Are political positions important in art? Is there
a proclivity for conservative politics in North Korean diasporic
communities? The conference is accompanied by an exhibit of Song Byeok's
art, on Wednesday and Thursday at the Center for Korean Studies, from 9am
to 5pm. A flyer is attached.
