Dear Korean Studies colleagues,
I would like to share a brief call for publication proposals from
Academia Publishers, LLC, an independent small academic publishing house
based in Berkeley, California. Korean Studies is one of our main areas
of interest, together with related fields in the humanities and social
sciences.
As an independent small press, we aim to combine careful scholarly
publishing with flexible formats, low, reasonable pricing, and highly
efficient production workflows. Put simply, we do not want specialized
academic books to become $200 or $300 library-only volumes, a model that
has become common as corporate consolidation has reshaped parts of
academic publishing, especially in Europe. Our editorial and production
workflows are designed for a significantly shorter review and
publication timeline than is typical at larger university presses, while
maintaining scholarly standards appropriate to each project.
We welcome publication proposals in Korean Studies, Asian Studies,
history, cultural studies, the humanities more broadly, as well as
selected areas of technology studies (including computer science,
artificial intelligence, and the socioeconomic and political
implications of digital technologies). We are also interested in
projects that may not fit easily into the standard
large-university-press model, including highly specialized research
monographs, shorter research studies and working papers, as either
single publications or series, edited volumes, conference proceedings,
source editions, commented translations, and other formats that serve
scholarly communities. We welcome inventive formats: authors and editors
are invited to propose publication models and formats that fit the
material and the intended scholarly audience; quality and usefulness
matter more than inherited conventions.
For authors and editors, Academia Publishers offers a publishing path
that combines scholarly seriousness with broad accessibility, flexible
formats, and international distribution.
We publish each title simultaneously in four formats: paperback,
hardcover, PDF, and Kindle eBook. Publication proposals from both
individual scholars and institutions are welcome. We currently consider
manuscripts with English, German, or French as their main language.
Scholars, research groups, and institutions with possible book or
research paper projects are welcome to contact us via our contact page:

Please feel free to share or repost this announcement with colleagues,
research groups, graduate students, or institutions for whom it may be
relevant. Spread the word.
With best regards,
Frank Hoffmann
